Changing upkeep on Flamethrowers?

After having them for several months suddenly my flamethrowers have a 10m upkeep. But it took me several minutes to figure out what changed. I go into my account and sudenly I have a 13+B negative royalty and 20min to deal with it. After selling most of them off and leaving my defenses messed up I'm wondering how many days it will take to recover from this latest unanounced change.
